A man has been jailed after randomly assaulting and threatening people in McDonald's and Morrisons in High Wycombe.

He was also seen trying to get into a number of vehicles at the McDonalds drive-through before heading towards Morrisons, where he continued to threaten the public with a knife outside the store and another man on Glenister Road.

Ian Keighley, aged 50, of Marygold Walk, Little Chalfont, appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court on June 9 where he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted robbery, four counts of using threatening behaviour with a bladed article, one count of criminal damage and one count of assault by beating.

He was sentenced to four and a half years’ in prison at the same hearing.

Investigating officer PC Dan Page, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured as a result of Keighley’s rampage.

“But he randomly assaulted and threatened members of the public going about their day-to-day business.

“This sentence is a reflection of the offences that he committed.

“I hope that this conviction and sentence sends a robust message to others who would look to inflict this type of fear of violence on innocent people that Thames Valley Police will not tolerate this and bring offenders to justice.”
