Chesham United have been disqualified from the Berks & Bucks Cup.

The Generals defeated Aylesbury United 2-0 at the Meadow on Tuesday, November 8 in the first round of the competition, and were due to play league rivals Beaconsfield Town in the next phase.

But on Friday, November 18, it was confirmed that they had been removed from the competition after accidentally fielding an ineligible player.

In their statement, the club said: “We can confirm that we have been found guilty by the Berks & Bucks FA of fielding an ineligible player in our recent Senior Cup first-round tie against Aylesbury United, and they have confirmed this week that they have removed us from the Competition with immediate effect.

“This was an honest mistake on our behalf, that occurred due to a mix-up with regards to a player who was playing for another local side on a dual-registration basis and that we found out afterward had played in an earlier round of the competition.

“We accept the County FA’s decision and wish Aylesbury the best of luck in the next round.”

Aylesbury United added: “We appreciate Chesham’s honesty over the unintentional mistake and wish them the best for the rest of the season.”

Aylesbury will take on Beaconsfield in the next round at a later date.
