12 local businesses have been given new food hygiene ratings after surprise council inspections.

The Chequers pub in Marlow, Wycombe Pizza takeaway in High Wycombe and a Thai restaurant in Chesham are among the venues recently handed new hygiene ratings for factors including their cleanliness and food safety practices.

All restaurants in the county are subject to unannounced visits from the Food Standards Agency and are then assigned a score between zero – indicating the need for urgent improvement – and five, as good as a medal of honour on the hygiene front.
