AN INVESTIGATION has been launched over claims a person in Buckinghamshire has contracted an illness from a food market in the area.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has confirmed it is looking into a report of someone feeling unwell having eaten from a business in Bucks.
The Bucks Free Press understands the incident is related to a person thought to have contracted E.Coli at a food market in Buckinghamshire. However this has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
A spokesman from the UKHSA said: “We are supporting Environmental Health Officers from Buckinghamshire Council after someone reported feeling unwell following the consumption of food from local vendors.”
An E.coli infection can cause serious illness which will need medical treatment.
E. coli is excreted from the body in faeces. If you do not wash your hands properly after going to the toilet the bacteria can spread around the house and across your body via your hands.
Symptoms include stomach cramps, diarrhoea (often bloody), and vomiting.
Buckinghamshire Council's deputy cabinet member for environmental health Carl Jackson said: "The Council’s Environmental Health team is aware of this case and is investigating jointly with the UKHSA.
"It is too soon to draw conclusions about the source of this suspected infection, but we are continuing to investigate to try to determine where this illness originated. I can confirm this is a single case so there is no cause for any wider concerns about public health.”
