A country pub in Buckinghamshire announced it was closing ‘temporarily’ within weeks.

The Black Horse Inn in Chesham told customers about the “difficult” decision to temporarily close the pub from the end of January due to rising costs.

Troves of fans reacted to the emotional announcement on the pub’s social media, many saying they were sad to hear about the closure.

The pub said: “Having successfully steered the business through the pandemic we now find ourselves facing a new set of challenges with rising supplier and staff costs and an energy bill that has tripled overnight. As a small, independent out of town business we are particularly exposed to these increases and unfortunately the personal pressures of trading in this environment have become too great.”

The decision was not taken lightly “as we love being a part of the local community and serving our many loyal customers who have supported us through thick and thin,” the pub said.

The closure time to “weather the storm” will be used to evaluate the options for the business's future, the pub said.

Last opening day is set for Friday January 27, with offers on throughout the month.

“We would love to see you for another pint before this break,” the pub’s team added.
