BROTHERLY love was in short supply as the chairmen of Flackwell Heath and Marlow United went head-to-head in a cup semi-final.
Geoff Turner came out on top in the battle against brother Alan as the Heathens booked their place in the final of the Reading Senior Cup with a penalty shoot-out win.
Marlow are four divisions below their Hellenic Premier League opponents but packed their defence to ensure a goalless game went all the way to penalties.
That’s when Marlow’s luck ran out, as Flackwell beat them 4-2 on spot kicks.
Flackwell chairman Geoff Turner said: “I would have liked to have done it with more style. We couldn’t break through, they parked the bus and they didn’t have one shot at our goal. It was quite sad we couldn’t score.
“He was cock-a-hoop at losing, if that’s possible, because they lost in a glorious way.
“We bought each other a pint but I have the bragging rights.”
He had less success from the spot four days later when Flackwell lost the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy final to Newport Pagnell on Tuesday night.
They play Newbury at Reading’s Madejski Stadium next month as they bid to reach four cup finals this season.
Flackwell are into the last four of the Hellenic League Cup and the Wycombe Senior Cup, where they will play the winners of the abandoned Chalfont Wasps v Hambledon tie.
