Gareth Ainsworth is one of a number of managers under consideration for the Blackburn Rovers job.
Sources close to Rovers say the current Wycombe Wanders boss is in the running to take over from Paul Lambert at the Championship club.
It remains unclear whether Ainsworth, who is a lifelong Blackburn fan, has been included on a final shortlist of preferred candidates for the job, or if an approach has been made for his services.
The odds for the 43-year-old to take over at Ewood Park dramatically shortened on Monday with some bookmakers making him 2/1 favourite for the post.
Ainsworth has also spoken of his admiration for Blackburn in the past and described it as “my dream job” in an interview with the Lancashire Telegraph in 2012.
Wanderers are yet to comment on the speculation linking Ainsworth with a move away from the club he first took charge of four years ago.
Neil Warnock, Alan Stubbs, Keith Hill, Neil Redfearn, and Craig Hignett are also in cntention to for the job.
