Jack Goff’s strong start to the British Touring Car Championships (BTCC) continued as he enjoyed an impressive race weekend at Donnington Park.
The 25-year-old performed consistently across the three races of the second meet of the season as he finished fourth, fifth and sixth.
Goff is currently third in the overall championship standings and was pleased with the results at Donnington, even though he felt he could have done even better had it not been for the difficult race conditions.
“Fourth place in the opening race was a solid start to race day, although I think we could possibly have got into the top three without the safety car and then the red flag,” Goff said.
“With the soft tyres in race three it was always going to be difficult to stay in the podium positions.
“I didn’t expect to be the top BMW driver in the points at this stage of the season, and hopefully we can continue our form at Thruxton.”
The second race of the weekend proved to be the most eventful for Goff as his car was involved in a collision with fellow High Wycombe racer Tom Ingram.
Goff, who races for Team IHG rewards, could not conceal his frustration at the incident despite the fact he managed to fight back to finish high up the standings.
He said: “The car felt in really good shape. It got a little messy when I was racing with Tom Ingram and he pulled a move which damaged my car, but we still showed strong pace and it was another good finish.”
Ingram’s own results were less impressive when compared to Goff’s as he followed up a third place finish in the opening race by coming 15th and 19th.
He is now 12th in the overall standings, while Matt Simpson completes the local racers in 32nd place.
Simpson’s weekend offered little joy as he failed to complete the first race before coming 22nd and 23rd later on in proceedings.
The season now takes a prolonged break before moving to Thruxton on the weekend commencing Saturday, 7 May.
With only 12 points separating Goff and championship leader Matt Neal, his display at Donnington will give him every confidence of competing for the title for the remainder of the season.
