A VIGIL and protest will be held outside Wycombe police station to mark the birthday of a man who died in police custody.
The Justice4Paps group will be holding a vigil outside the police base in Queen Alexander Road from 5pm on Friday to mark what would have been the birthday of Habib Ullah.
Mr Ullah suffered a cardiac arrest and died on July 3, 2008 after being restrained by police officers who were trying to force drugs out of his mouth, an inquest in December 2010 was told.
But the inquest was later abandoned after the coroner was told police officers had been advised to alter parts of their statements by a solicitor. Mr Ullah’s family have been fighting for answers ever since.
In addition to the vigil, Justice4Paps will also be holding a peaceful demonstration as it continues its campaign to secure a public inquiry into policing operations in High Wycombe.
It follows concerns raised to the group by traders in Green Street over anti-social behaviour, as well as Thames Valley Police’s handling of the Operation Ribbon child sex abuse case.
Justice4Paps said: “We urge all people who issues and concerns to do with policing in the town to attend the event and support those individuals who have come forward to complain about their treatment at the hands of the police, as well as supporting the family of Habib Ullah.”
