A POLICE chief admitted there are 'no suspects and no intelligence' on the recent desecration of Muslim graves at High Wycombe Cemetery.

More than 20 graves were vandalised at the top of the Hampden Road cemetery in April, leading to an outcry from family members and community leaders.

Chief inspector Colin Seaton said officers are in the same position regarding the grave of eight-year-old Olivia Chandler, whose grave was also torn up this month (see links below).

He told a meeting last night: “There's no intelligence, there's no witnesses....There's no forensic evidence at all - with crimes like that there are unlikely to be. It's made it very very difficult.

“We haven't got suspects, it's that simple...but our appeals will be relentless.”

There had been high-profile appeals for witnesses to come forward, covered by the Bucks Free Press and Awaaz Radio, he said.

Olivia's dad was in the public gallery at the High Wycombe Town Committee meeting last night to hear about plans to increase security at the cemetery.

Ch Insp Seaton said it would be difficult to install CCTV as it covers a “vast area”, but there were calls for lighting to be installed on a path along the top of the cemetery, where it is thought the vandals climbed in.

Councillors said they would make the cemetery one of their top priorities for the coming year. The committee is part of Wycombe District Council, which is currently reviewing security at the site.
