A HIGH Wycombe school has been recognised for achieving some of the fastest improving GCSE results in the country.
The number of pupils getting five A* - C grades, including English and maths, at St Bernard’s Catholic School was boosted by more than 20 per cent in one year.
The proportion was 42 per cent in 2009 and 64 per cent last year.
The Crispin Way school, rated good with outstanding features by Ofsted last year, was among 494 schools and academies to be commended by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
Other south Buckinghamshire schools to make big improvements on this indicator were Chesham Park Community College (37 – 48 per cent), Cressex Community School (25 – 38 per cent) and Holmer Green Senior School (51 – 61 per cent).
Sefton Park, a private school in Stoke Poges, made a massive leap from 43 to 88 per cent, according to Governments figures released last week.
Elizabeth Reid, chief executive of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, said: “Congratulations to all schools and their students where GCSE results have made dramatic improvements.
“Improvements in education standards are down to the hard work of young people and their teachers. Schools are striving to share what works best in the classroom so we improve the education we offer our young people still further.”
