Two police forces are being investigated over contact they had with Bradford mother Kulsuma Akter in the weeks before she was stabbed to death, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.

The IOPC said West Yorkshire Police (WYP) was contacted on March 28 this year, when it was reported Ms Akter had received death threats.

It added that evidence the watchdog had reviewed suggested officers also shared information with Greater Manchester Police following the report.

Ms Akter was taken to hospital after being stabbed several times in Bradford on April 6 as she pushed her baby in a pram through the city centre.

Habibur Masum, 25, was subsequently charged with her murder after he was arrested in Aylesbury, following a four-day manhunt.

Masum was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, April 9.

Masum, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, is also charged with possession of a bladed article.

He appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he was remanded in custody following a six-minute long hearing.

Ms Akter was taken to hospital after being stabbed several times in Westgate at the junction with Drewton Road at 3.20pm on Saturday.

She later died from her injuries.

The baby is safe and was not harmed in the incident, police said.
