The M25 is closed clockwise between junction 16 (for the M40) and junction 17 (for Maple Cross) due to a lorry fire.
The vehicle was transporting recycled waste and is expected to take some time to extinguish.
Emergency services including Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police are in attendance.
Highways England have reported delays of 45 minutes leading up to the closure as traffic officers provide assistance with traffic management on the scene.

A diversion route has been suggested by Highways Engalnd:
- Exit the M25 clockwise at J16 and join the M40 towards Uxbridge
- Exit the M40 at J1 (Denham Roundabout) and then take the 1st exit onto the A40 towards Amersham
- At the traffic light controlled junction with the A412, turn right onto the A412 towards Rickmansworth
- Pass under Denham railway bridge and follow the A412 to the Maple Cross roundabout
- Take the 1st exit at the roundabout onto the A412/M25 link road towards the M25
- At the M25 J17 roundabout, take the 3rd exit to re-join the M25 clockwise
