RESIDENTS can again get involved in the design of the Aylesbury gardenway next week.

The 18-kilometre orbital park which will surround the town will be the subject of a new series of online workshops residents can participate in from Monday, January 25.

The sessions will mark the second phase of engagement relating to the gardenway.

In these sessions, residents will get the chance to listen to some of the feedback received on the project so far, join online conversations that will focus on specific sections of the gardenway, and more.

Contributions from the workshop will then be brought together to finalise the proposed route to provide fully accessible routes for walking, wheeling and cycling around the park.

It is hoped the gardenway will encourage play, active lifestyles, food-growing, outdoor leisure and become a “haven for wildlife”.

What is Aylesbury Gardenway?

The park is a new project which comes as part of the Aylesbury Garden Town masterplan, which will see the town adorned with green infrastructure as thousands of new homes are built in the coming years.

It will create an ‘orbital route’ with a ring of connected parks, gardens, brooks and natural areas complete with cycling, walking and wheeling routes circling the town.

What is the route of the gardenway?

It has a north, east, south and west section.

The south section runs from Wendover Road to Oxford Road.

The East section runs from Grand Union Canal to Wendover Road.

The North section runs from Bicester Road to the Grand Union Canal.

And the West section runs from Oxford Road to Bicester Road.

How is the gardenway progressing?

Aylesbury was awarded garden town status in 2017. Three years later, in July 2020, the garden town masterplan was adopted.

In December 2020, a series of online discussions took place to consider the gardenway’s impact on community, climate change, nature, transport and more.

Following this, an online exhibition which brought together the community’s ideas was published.

More design consultations will take place later this month and in February before another online exhibition is published in March.
