Chesham United's future was plunged into doubt, after a meeting last week revealed plans to move away from The Meadow.

The club, who ply their trade in the Southern Football League Premier Division, are looking to relocate to a new purpose-built stadium with additional training pitches, both of which are to be artificial.

According to a spokesperson for Chesham, several sites have been earmarked with one in Ashley Green, close to The Bellcote, of significant interest.

The spokesperson added in a post on the Chesham United Football Club Facebook page: "We are looking for a minimum of 28 acres to allow the full development of pitches and ancillary buildings and car park. As things stood at the moment though this was now not possible at The Meadow."

One option for the club was to put an all weather pitch on their current site, but at a cost of £500,000 the funding was the problem and concluded that they needed to sell their current ground in order to get the funding for the new stadium.

The spokesman said: "For the club to survive another 100 years we have to be progressive in the present.

The current site is like a 'ball and chain’ constantly swallowing money just to stand still, this includes the grass pitch which was not good enough for the amount of games it has to endure over a season."
