A bus fire caused traffic chaos on a main High Wycombe road this afternoon.
Drivers were being advised to avoid the A404 Marlow Hill northbound, which has now re-opened.
Paula Ann Andrews, who drove past the bus when it caught fire, said: "I phoned the fire brigade when I saw the bus.
"[The traffic] did start to build up. My daughter who goes to the high school said they went on lock down because of it and special precautions were taken."
She told the Bucks Free Press there were people on the bus and she saw the driver ushering them off.
After driving past, eyewitness Abigail O'Toole said on social media: "[I] drove past 5 mins ago and bus was still there, one lane closed, 2 fire engines still there and police controlling students. Followed with a lot of traffic."
Fire crews from High Wycombe were called out to the scene and firefighters used one hose reel, two sets of breathing apparatus and a PPV (positive pressure ventilation) fan.
Bus delays this afternoon due to one broken down bus outside school. Everyone safe, but major disruption and traffic delays.
