A shocked pub-goer described hearing a “massive bang” after a car hit a pub in High Wycombe yesterday evening.
Firefighters were called to the Wendover Arms Hotel on Desborough Avenue at 7.40pm on Monday, April 25 after a silver Vauxhall appeared to have gone through a hedge and hit the building.
The car suffered damage to the rear end and had a smashed window.
An eyewitness who did not want to be named, described their shock at hearing the crash, which they believed may have been caused by a problem with the handbrake.
They said: “I heard a big, massive bang and people came running in from the next room.
“There were not many people in the pub at the time but we were all really shocked, it was a loud bang. It hit the side of the building and the damage looked quite bad.
“We all went outside at first to see if there was anything leaking or if there was anything wrong with the building. We wanted to make sure everyone in the room was ok.”
The car caused minor damage to the building and the fire crew set up a safety cordon.
It has not been confirmed how the car came to damage the pub, but no one was trapped or injured in the incident.
We have not been able to reach the pub for comment.
