A tennis club has been served up a slice of national sports funding, which will net members £30,000 and allow them to improve facilities and court new members.
Wooburn Park Lawn Tennis Club will receive a £30,000 windfall as part of £16.5million of National Lottery funding from Sport England spilt among 149 projects nationally.
The cash will assist with the construction of a fourth floodlit tennis court at the club site at Wooburn Green.
Club chairman Peter Hatch, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which completes the funding needed to start work on our additional court.
“Last year we built a new clubhouse to replace the original structure which was more than 40 years old. This year will see the vacated site of the old clubhouse transformed into a brand new court.”
The latest round of national funding is targeted at providing new playing surfaces and pavilions for clubs across the country to get more people taking part in sport.
The announcement comes as Sport England revealed it has reached a major funding milestone – having invested £5 billion in grassroots sport in the last 20 years.
Sport England’s Charles Johnston said: By giving people top-class, sustainable facilities in which to play sport, and by improving and protecting our playing surfaces, we’re ensuring that more people can pay sport, more often.”
