THREE officers who helped prevent an alleged house siege in High Wycombe have been praised for their actions at a police award ceremony.

Sergeant James Davies, 32, Sgt Richard Marsh, 40, and Detective Sgt Steve Fox, 37, all bagged awards for bravery and excellent service on Friday.

The three helped stop a knife-wielding man from taking hostages at a house.

At the Buckinghamshire Basic Command Unit Awards Ceremony, Inspector Ray Scotcher, said: "Had it not been for their actions it could have quite easily developed and ended up in a siege-type situation."

Thirteen other police officers were awarded for carrying out a top service - including a school officer who has become a firm favourite with the kids.

PC Raja Yousaf, 27, was given a certificate of achievement award for his work at Cressex Community School in Holmers Lane.

The ceremony heard that in a questionnaire completed by pupils, they said they felt safer, less bullied, and more willing to study as a result of his presence.

Superintendent Rob Angell said: "He has been inspirational to these young people and has significantly assisted us to deliver community work in High Wycombe."

PC Yousaf, who helped involve Wycombe Wanderers in projects at the school, praised pupils for making his job so enjoyable.

He said: "I absolutely love being there. The kids are really good kids and given the chance they really do pull through.

"If it is a success it is only because of the support I have had from the force and the kids who have moved it forward."

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) were also widely praised at the event in the King's Centre, Desborough Road.

PCSO Graham Johnson, 42, was given an award after he helped nick a persistent car thief in Chalfont St Peter.

PCSO Johnson said afterwards: "I just like being out and meeting the community."
