ROAD chiefs called for a detailed inspection of the Abbey Way flyover because a routine structural survey proved “inconclusive”.
Transport for Buckinghamshire said there was uncertainty over the results of the routine inspection of the busy flyover last week, sparking a more detailed probe.
The county council’s transport arm said the findings of the “intrusive inspection” will be ready in June - but it refused to be drawn on the specific nature of the studies when asked by the BFP.
In a statement, TfB said: “Following a routine inspection, a decision was made to conduct a further more detailed investigation of the flyover.
“The results from the routine inspection are inconclusive; this has led us to undertake a more detailed investigation to ensure that the structure continues to remain safe and operational.
“Once we have the full information, we will be in a position to consider the most appropriate long term maintenance of the flyover.”
One lane in each direction of the Abbey Way flyover has been closed as a result of the survey and TfB said this has not caused any delays.
CCTV cameras have been installed at each end of the flyover so transport bosses can continue to monitor traffic movements.
TfB said: “To date, this [closure] has not caused any traffic congestion.
“We have installed CCTV cameras at both ends of the Abbey Way flyover, and we are able to closely monitor all traffic movements from our control centre and make sure that congestion is kept to a minimum.
“There has been no impact on the emergency services, bus routes or access to the Eden Shopping Centre, and we remain in contact with all the services via our control centre.”
